A walk through the past - photos I have not shared

This would be a great album cover. Last spring, Saskatoon.
Last winter. Now that coat is short in the sleeves, and those boots would
fit maybe two of his toes Mexico trip last spring. He is a water loving toddler
A funny picture- his face looks very DEFINED somehow

Oh, umm photos....yeah

Moma and Dad are visiting and Nolan is LOVING having them. He is all "Oma Opa!!!" all the time. Our nanny is off for a few weeks to be with her daughter, who just had a baby (little girl!).

It is the wee hours and I don't have my glasses on, a combo which has resulted in more typos per running inch than ever before. I keep correcting midstream because I have always HATED seeing misspelled words, they LEAP of the page and grab my optic nerves in slimy little claws til I get rid of them.

I promised some photos, so will go into Picasa and see what's there to share....

Talking on the phone and other updates

Nolan now will have a conversation on the real phone, where he interacts with the other person. This is cool. previously, he'd PLAY "phone" but if someone talked to him he was fascinated and speechless. He is very chatty, and his new love is his tub "craynons" (I bought them at the Childrens Museum of Atlanta gift store while I was away last weekend.)

He also will get things out of the fridge to make himself a snack, zoom around the house on his little four wheeled push bike thing, and is equally obsessed with Maisy videos and the Wiggles. He has three guitars- an electric Wiggles one that plays songs, a real acoustic one, and a teeny plastic one- that he plays with a lot as well.

With all of this progress, it is disappointing that he is no longer omnivorous, now he has defined foods: cheese, bread and butter, eggs, bread and peanut butter, any kind of meat except luncheon meat, cereal, fruit, yogourt, and noodles. Cookies, "cack-ers", and occasionally potatoes. All other vegetables, by the way, are POISON and any food that touches a vegetable is likewise to be regarded as toxic.

So, we'll see. Two year olds seem notorious for this food behaviour. He's clearly not lacking in nutrition at least....he's a big fella, still.

GTG, I was waiting for a patient to return, I'm at work. I'll post some photos within a day or two....

Rock Star

Sometimes having a kid is like being a rock star- you come home and get an excited fan base of one running up and shouting "Mommy!!!!" in purest appreciation. Nolan tends to be quite directive- shoes "OFFF!!!" and coat- and any other extra layers, like a cardigan "Off! Off!"- like he's making sure I can't leave again. Then I feel a bit bad for leaving for work in the first place, but I think we do appreciate each other extra after a period of time away from each other.

This am Nolan awoke, came out to the stairs and called "Where are youuuuuuu?" plaintively -with his tousled hair and puffy eyes - til I came up the stairs, when he grabbed my hand, and marched me back to bed saying "Nigh night. Nigh night....", which is code for wanting to nurse back to sleep. Yep- gasp- he still nurses a bit and he's over 2yrs old. In bed, I told Mike that I feel sheepish about this, but Nolan derives so much comfort from it it's hard to stop cold. A friend just told me she has a few friends who still let their toddlers nurse, so I imagine this secretive, secret society of moms in isolation, afraid to talk about toddlers nursing for fear of being called "Late weaners" at the playground. "Late weaner" sounds both funny and insulting, you think?

Anyway, GTG do some work-

a collection of thoughts

Shhhh. He's asleep- before 9pm! That's amazing given the recent history of total lack of routine sleep around here. Damn molars. He kept dropping his Jeff (third from L) and Dorothy (green dinosaur, not pictured) figurines on his own head as he was gently waving them in the air in bed. This was causing some waking up, sadly, but they had to be there. They also came into the tub. The Ebay lot of Wiggles paraphenalia I just got has caused much happiness, I tell you.

The snow is fun too- except for it being too early for it- Nolan was in his ski pants for the first time last weekend and at one point ran acrooss the dining room in them, then stopped, confused by the "Shh-Shh-Shh-Shh" sound. Ran. Stopped. Then just ran. Cute! The yard has deck furniture out, half buried summer toys, and a lot of surprised green leaves falling off the lilac tree and covering the snow. The sudden snowfall captured a moment, sort of like Pompeii -only without immolation, which is good.

Last night I was trying to study- what I should be doing now, actually- and Nolan climbed on my lap and happily drew with a green highlighter for quite a while. So cute, intent, curly head under my chin, serious faced, holding the marker in his pudgy hand and bending over the page.

Well, I'll sign off for now. Later,
L
