Catchup- a family boy

Augh, just spent too much insomnia time on Facebook and am getting sleepy, so this will be quick. Pics later though.

1) "Picmics" = picnics. Process: sit on master bedroom floor in circle of pillows, one of which the is the "door". Knock politely, and when acknowledged, sit, while Nolan energetically runs around collecting "semmedges", lettuce for mommy and daddy, "cookies", and "ice cream"- all objects like very small board books, candlesticks, toys- and we "eat" and talk about our day. "So! Mama, what did you do yesterday? I'm happy to see you!". A stacking toy is a birthday cake and he sings the Blues Clues birthday song to me : "Have a special birthday you-hooo, and we'll have a great day too-oo. Everybody say, it's Mommies special day, happy birthdayyyy....Blow out the candles!".
Nolan then uses his wooden recorder whistle as a "knife" to separate the cake into blocks for consumption. And then calls the red blocks "tomatoes", to be served with the cake.
And repeat.

2) Imagine the following medley, sung with gusto and pride (he figured out the tunes were the same spontaneously....)
Aay bee see dee e rfg ee, haitch I Jay kay mnmmno peeee, you r esss, tee ooo veee, wubbl-u ess, why and zeee...next time won't you play with me.....Twinkle, twinkle little star....

3) Bad night the other night- time change and post halloween letdown, he was crazy tired and rolling his eyes and chanting "But I CAN'T SLEEP!!!" in an agony of denial of tiredness. Poor kid. Dangerous though. I had to body block him from escaping and he struggled mightily, and cried till he was sweating, and finally calmed when I sangthe old, old "Nolan Song" I had made up a bazillion years ago as a sleep deprived new mom. It's the classic lullaby tune.....
"There was a boy, his name was Nolan, he was brave and funny, he was nice to everyone, he was sma-a-art and good. (Then that ongoing cyclic wavering chorus, naming everyone....)
And his mommy loved him, and his daddy loved him, and Evadnie loved him, and his grandma loved him...his Oma and his Opa loved him, Aunty Sheila Uncle Real, will and Elise.....His Uncle Conor loved him too and Uncle Jeff and Aunty Nica and his new, little cousin Leo. His Uncle Paul and Aunty Asa, Uncle Kevin, Aunty Cara and his cousin Llewellyn too....Uncle Ray and Aunty Mika loved him too....and he louuooouuuves them back.

You'd have to hear me sing it I guess.

After three reps he was calm and started talking about the relatives he has a clearer memory of from recent visits or looking at his photo albums (he carries around albums and photos still, and sometimes kisses them).

We are likely going to Saskatoon for the long weekend because Nolan has been going to the window and saying "Aunty Cheela and Will and Elise are coming!?" We set pancake plates for Will and Elise the other morning too, he insisted. He could use a Gramma-Oma and Opa recharge too.

It's unfortunate the other Grandma and Grandpa are sort of far away, I'm sure a visit from them would be a highlight as he is figuring out family relationships a bit more. He has good recall of Grandma but gets confused by "other Grandpa?", but we'll work on the picture recognition perhaps.

Time to try to sleep again. Am going to try to post a short video....
